Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) says he won’t be tweeting during the State of the Union address, a year after a personal exchange with a woman on Twitter during last year’s address sparked questions.
A follower asked Cohen on Twitter Sunday if they could tweet at each other during the address on Tuesday night.
Cohen responded, saying he won’t be tweeting at that time.
Last year, a woman named Victoria Brink tweeted at Cohen during the State of the Union address, and said “just saw you on TV!”
“Nice to know you were watchin SOTU(state of the union).Happy Valentines beautiful girl. ilu.,” Cohen replied. “Ilu” is short-hand for I love you. President Obama’s 2013 address was on Feb. 12.
Initially, Cohen said the woman was the daughter of a friend. He later revealed Brink was his daughter, whom he had learned of three years earlier.
Last July, however, a paternity test confirmed Cohen was, in fact, not Brink’s father. In a statement at the time, Cohen said he was “stunned and dismayed at the results.”
Cohen said Sunday he was happy the address was not scheduled the same night as the Grammy awards, which he also tweeted about frequently on Sunday.
