Rep. Bass tweets awareness for AIDS research

She started her tweeting Wednesday night with: “Join me tomorrow on #WorldAIDSDay, as I tweet-blast 24hrs of AIDS facts & ways to get involved to help #ZeroOutAIDS http://t.co/FymKMOs2”

Bass, switching between the #ZeroOutAIDS, #WorldAIDSDay and #WAD11 hashtags, tweeted informative AIDS related tweets all day to engage the public.

“I’m working in Congress to #ZeroOutAIDS http://ow.ly/7KGis how are you making a difference? #WAD11,” she tweeted.

Bass also showed her support by adding a red AIDS ribbon to her Twitter picture.

Other members of Congress were eyeing the budget in their World AIDS Day tweets. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) tweeted: “Today, on #WorldAIDSDay, we must recommit to ensuring Global AIDS funding is not cut & that orgs have the resources they need to save lives.”

And Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.) tweeted: “We can end HIV and AIDS with education, prevention and treatment. Share the knowledge. http://t.co/ACrwLibB” 

World AIDS Day is observed every Dec. 1. This year, President Obama announced $50 million in new federal funding for AIDS treatment that will go to HIV medical clinics nationwide and to state grants for drug-assistance programs.
