Illinois Republican lawmakers praise Blagojevich’s sentence

Sen. Mark Kirk tweeted, “On the #Blago sentencing – Kudos to US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald for another successful conviction of a corrupt #Illinoisgovernor!” 

Kirk also released a statement earlier in the day where he praised the conviction. 

Rep. Judy Biggert wrote, “Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to 14 years in prison — justice for the people of Illinois whose trust he abused.”

And Rep. Adam Kinzinger advocated a message of rebuilding the state in his tweet. “Rod Blagojevich received 14 years in prison. We must now move past this & turn our focus toward working to rebuild IL” 

Blagojevich was convicted on Wednesday on several accounts of public corruption related to trying to sell President Obama’s vacant Senate seat in 2008.
