NYC mayor challenges Obama to hoops

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) has issued a challenge to President Obama to face off on the basketball court.

Subway rider Alvin Javier used his phone to tape an encounter with the new mayor during a ride on the subway and convinced de Blasio to ask Obama to play hoops.

{mosads}In the video, posted to Instagram, de Blasio says it’s a “great idea.”

He says the president “has more basketball skills and practices a lot more, but I have height.”

The New York mayor checks in at 6 feet 5 inches, overshadowing Obama by four inches.

The game would likely be a friendly one. Obama has frequently praised the progressive Democrat, who has pushed for one of the president’s top priorities — universal pre-K — during his early months in office.

During a fundraiser late last year in New York, Obama said he “could not be prouder of the campaign Bill ran, the way he gave voice to the values that make us Democrats.”

“We are confident he is going to continue to move New York in a direction where everybody has a chance to get ahead,” Obama added.
