The Berenstain Bears characters were inspired by Berenstain’s own children and, later, grandchildren. The books later produced a TV series.
Stan Berenstain died in 2005. Mike Berenstain, one of the couple’s two sons, told the AP that he plans to continue writing and illustrating books based on the characters.
