Ryan’s convention speech prompts more tweets than both 2008 conventions

{mosads}Ryan inspired more tweets during his speech to the Republican National Convention than Ann Romney’s popular speech did the previous night.

The most popular moments in the speech were Ryan’s discussion of faith, in particular the moment when he discussed the differences between his Catholicism and Mitt Romney’s Mormonism, saying “the best preaching is done by example,” and the moment when Ryan declared the government must stop spending money it doesn’t have.

The moment of faith in the speech earned 6,470 tweets per minute (TPM), and the government spending line earned 5,999 TPM, Twitter said. At the conclusion of Ryan’s speech, there were 6,669 TPM.

In comparison, Ann Romney’s biggest spike earned 6,195 TPM, when her husband joined her on stage at the end of the speech on Tuesday night. On Wednesday night, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice earned 3,961 TPM during her speech, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee 1,906 TPM and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) 1,708 TPM.

Political events such as President Obama’s State of the Union earlier this year or the Supreme Court’s healthcare decision announcement both inspired more tweets per minute than any of the convention speeches so far.

No political event so far has prompted as many tweets as a celebrity event such as singer Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement last year at the VMA awards, which prompted 8,868 tweets per second, at that time the most ever recorded for a single event.
