Lawmakers take to Twitter to share their Thanksgiving plans

Lawmakers gave a glimpse into their private lives on Thursday, tweeting photos from their Thanksgiving Day celebrations. 

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) spent the morning preparing Thanksgiving meals at the Pine Street Inn, a homeless shelter in Boston. He and wife Gail arrived around 10 a.m. and got to work carving turkeys — over 70 were served — for an 11 a.m. meal for residents.

This is Brown’s third year helping at Pine Street Inn, and he made a personal donation to the shelter as well.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) tweeted out a photo of a turkey, draped in tinfoil, warming in the oven.

“140 characters not enough to list all I am grateful for. Thank you God #HappyThanksgiving,” he wrote.

Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) wife, Cindy, also tweeted out a photo of their somewhat less traditional cooking plans: In the photo, McCain is about to lower their turkey into a deep-fryer. A man stands nearby with a fire extinguisher, ready for any cooking mishaps.

And Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who’s known for tweeting with little regard to proper spelling, spacing or grammar, told followers that “22 ppl ate thanksgiving dinner at grassley farm MrsG cooked.”

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, Democrat from New Hampshire, tweeted a photo of her family heading to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) sent a photo of her and her son, Henry, preparing Thanksgiving pies the night before.

Reps. Andre Carson (D-In.), Billy Long (R-Mo.), and Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) all shared their volunteering plans on Twitter. 

Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) also looked to be spending the day volunteering, as he tweeted a photo of a trunk full of turkeys waiting to be cooked.

Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (D) spent her morning at one of the nation’s annual Thanksgiving Day “Turkey Trot” races, tweeting a photo of her grandchildren ready to go.

And at least one lawmaker was spending part of the day on that all-important of American Thanksgiving Day traditions: Football.

“Go horns and cowboys,today!” Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison tweeted, in support of the two teams.
