Rep. Issa hopes freshman class includes redditors

{mosads}He added that current Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Jared Polis (D-Colo.) have held Q&As, known as AMAs on the site, in the past.

President Obama also used reddit during his campaign. The popular, though niche, site is becoming a powerful tool for politicians who take the time to understand the site’s sometimes complicated code of conduct for posting and interacting with other users.

Issa, a technology lover who has played a cautioning role over legislation attempting to regulate the Internet, held an Ask Me Anything (AMA) chat Wednesday. He asked users to weigh in on a new plan to prohibit regulatory agencies from enacting rules that affect the Internet for two years, calling it an attempt to “make Washington take a break  from messing with the Internet.”

Issa explained during the AMA that it is “not a bill (yet) but it’s a statement of principles I think should be refined, collaborated upon and applied when government considers issues affecting the Internet and individual rights and freedoms. [Its language is] ‘loose’ so we have space to work together on it.”
