Former Defense chief Rumsfeld’s Iraq war tweet sparks support and backlash

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on Tuesday tweeted out a tribute to those who played a role in U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, and was met with intense support and opposition from those in the Twitter community.

“10 yrs ago began the long, difficult work of liberating 25 mil Iraqis. All who played a role in history deserve our respect & appreciation,” Rumsfeld tweeted.

{mosads}As of this writing, Rumsfeld’s tweet had more than 300 retweets and 50 favorites. However, dozens responded critically, calling the former defense secretary “delusional” and a “war criminal.”

March 19 marks the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the military action that deposed Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein. In Baghdad on Tuesday, suicide bombers and terrorists marked the anniversary in a string of explosions that have killed more than 50 people.
