First lady lists top July Fourth memories

First lady Michelle Obama marked the Fourth of July holiday online by tweeting a photo of her and President Obama dancing during a 2010 event and linking to a White House blog post listing 10 of their “favorite” Independence Day moments.

{mosads}Number one on the list was “President Obama and babies” and included a photo of the commander-in-chief greeting young people on the South Lawn of the White House on the Fourth in 2012.

Other items included fireworks, marching bands, as well as Vice President Joe Biden’s trip to Iraq in 2010, a naturalization ceremony for new citizens hosted at the White House in 2012 and events honoring troops and military families.

The president and first lady will celebrate the Fourth of July this evening by hosting military families at the White House.

In his weekly address earlier Thursday, Obama urged Americans to live up to the ideals in the Declaration of Independence and praised the founding fathers.

“It was a declaration heard around the world – that we were no longer colonists, we were Americans, and our destiny would not be determined for us; it would be determined by us,” said Obama.
