August recess is in full swing and the congressional Twitterverse, which is usually abuzz with activity, has started to grind to a halt.
Here at the Twitter Room we held out hope for a lively recess on Twitter with heated healthcare town halls in the districts and talk of Democrats going alone on the reform bill here in the nation’s capital. But if today is any indication, the rest of recess will be slow going on the congressional Twitterwebs.
Most tweets by members of Congress are now simply detailing their day-to-day activities in their districts, such as this one from Rep. Ileane Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.):
Will drive to miami taped tv show to discuss whatever topics the host wishes to discuss.
On the other hand, there have been a few bright spots, such as this exchange between Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) last week.
But on the whole, watching congressmen’s Twitter feeds slow to a halt reminded us of this:
