The White House press office might be forgiven for taking a few victory laps Sunday afternoon after its official Twitter feed surpassed 1 million followers.
The feed reacted pretty casually to crossing the threshold, tweeting Sunday:
A million followers — nice. What would you like to see more of from this feed? Photos? Quotes? Cowbell? Tell us @whitehouse
The White House has gained some 70,000 followers this past week alone, according to tracking provided by TwitterCounter.com.
The White House’s feed started shortly after President Obama took office, and has built followers steadily over time.
Of course, the White House seems celebratory on the occasion, too, making an allusion to this “Saturday Night Live” sketch:
