Connecticut extends voting hours after poll problems
A Connecticut judge is extending voting hours at two polling stations after Democrats complained that some voters had been turned away.
Polls will stay open until 8:30 p.m., just a half-hour longer than the official end of voting. Democrats, who lean on the heavily Democratic capital, filed a complaint to the state Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon, asking that polls remain open until at least 9 p.m.
“Some people were turned away,” Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy, who faces a tough reelection, told reporters Tuesday. “In a community where we get about 90 percent of the vote, that’s concerning.”
The problems stemmed from poll workers who didn’t have voter registration lists to check off names, the Hartford Courant reported.
The Democratic governor said he remains confident about the results of Tuesday’s election, in which he faces a rematch against GOP nominee Tom Foley.
“I know we have more than enough votes to win, it’s just a question of whether our votes come out,” Malloy said.
