Appointments

• President Barack Obama intends to nominate James Cole as deputy attorney general at the Justice Department. Cole is a partner at Bryan Cave LLP, where he has worked since 1995 on compliance, securities, regulatory and criminal law issues. Cole was an official at the Justice Department for 13 years before entering private practice in 1992. Cole was the deputy chief of the criminal division’s public integrity section and later worked for President Bill Clinton’s transition team in 1992.

• President Obama announced his intent to nominate Mark Storella as ambassador to the Republic of Zambia. Storella is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and currently serves as senior coordinator for Iraqi refugees and internally displaced persons at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Storella previously served as deputy permanent representative and deputy chief of mission at the U.S. mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.

{mosads}• The president also announced his intent to nominate Matthew Bryza as ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan. Bryza is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, and currently serves as deputy assistant secretary of European and Eurasian affairs. Bryza was previously director for Europe and Eurasia at the National Security Council at the White House.

• President Obama announced his intent to appoint Melissa Savage as a member of the board of directors of the Valles Caldera Trust. Savage is the director of the Four Corners Institute. Savage is a forest geographer with a specialty in fire ecology and the Southwestern conifer ecosystems.

• The president announced his intent to appoint C. Kenneth Smith as a member of the board of directors of the Valles Caldera Trust. Smith is an associate professor of forestry and geology at the University of the South in Tennessee.
