Appointments
• President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate Neile Miller as principal deputy administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration in the Energy Department. Miller is currently the department’s director of the budget office and has worked for two decades in nuclear energy, budget policy and defense policy.
• The president announced his intent to nominate Eric Benjaminson as ambassador to the Gabonese Republic. Benjaminson is a career member of the senior foreign service and currently serves as minister counselor for economic affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa. Earlier, Benjaminson was deputy chief of mission at U.S. embassies in Namibia and Burkina Faso.
{mosads}• The president announced his intent to nominate J. Thomas Dougherty as ambassador to Burkina Faso. Dougherty currently serves as minister-counselor for public affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Dougherty has held overseas posts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Cameroon, Germany, Eritrea and elsewhere.
• The president announced his intent to nominate Maura Connelly as ambassador to the Republic of Lebanon. Connelly is currently a deputy assistant secretary in the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. Connelly has held numerous posts in Syria, London, Israel, Jordan, Algeria and South Africa.
• President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate Daniel Smith as ambassador to the Hellenic Republic. Smith is currently the executive secretary at the State Department. Smith has held overseas posts in Istanbul, Ottawa and Stockholm.
• The president announced his intent to nominate Subra Suresh as director of the National Science Foundation. Suresh is currently dean of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) engineering school.
