Appointments
•President Obama has nominated Timothy Massad for the position of
assistant secretary for financial stability at the Treasury Department.
Massad is currently the department’s acting assistant secretary for
financial stability. Before that, he served as chief counsel of the
Office of Financial Stability within the department and as a special
adviser to the Congressional Oversight Panel.
{mosads}•The president nominated James Thessin to become ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay. Thessin is a career member of the Senior Executive Service and has worked at the State Department as a deputy legal adviser for 11 years. He also served within the department as assistant legal adviser for management and as assistant legal adviser for human rights and refugee affairs.
•The president has nominated Wanda Felton to be first vice president of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Felton is the owner of MAP Capital Advisors and runs the financial advisory firm. She also was a managing director at Helix Associates Limited and a director for Credit Suisse First Boston in the private fund group. Felton acted as a loan officer for the Export-Import Bank at the beginning of her career.
•The president nominated Anuj Chang Desai to become a member of the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission. Desai works at the University of Wisconsin Law School as an associate professor. Previously, he taught as a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Chinese and American Studies in Nanjing, China, and at National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Desai has also clerked for judges in the United States and The Hague.
•The president sent a nomination to the senate for David Johanson to become a member of the U.S. International Trade Commission. Johanson has worked on the Republican staff of the Senate Finance Committee as international trade counsel since 2003. He worked on Capitol Hill for former Rep. George Radanovich (R-Calif.), Rep. Wally Herger (R-Calif.) and former Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas) before practicing international trade law.
