Appointments
•The president nominated Anne Patterson to be the ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt. Patterson recently served as the ambassador to Pakistan through October 2010 and is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. She has previously served as assistant secretary for international narcotics and law enforcement affairs, deputy permanent representative at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations and deputy inspector general.
{mosads}• The president has sent to the Senate Charles Massarone’s nomination to be commissioner of the United States Parole Commission for the Justice Department. Massarone is a member of the Kentucky Parole Board and a member of the Kentucky Corrections Commission and Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. Before that, Massarone was executive director for intergovernmental affairs for the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.
• President Obama announced his intent to nominate Ron McCray to be a member of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. McCray serves on Cornell University’s Board of Trustees, is a member of the Visiting Committee of the Harvard Law School and participates in Boston Championship Basketball as a limited partner owner. He previously worked at Nike Inc. as chief administrative officer.
• The president intends to nominate Arnold Stancell to be a member of the National Science Board for the National Science Foundation. Stancell currently works at Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering as the emeritus professor and Turner Leadership chairman. Prior to that, he worked for Mobil Oil for 31 years.
• President Obama has nominated Claude Steele to be a member of the National Science Board. Steele currently works at Columbia University as provost and psychology professor. Before that, he taught at Stanford University and the universities of Utah, Washington and Michigan.
