Appointments
• President Obama has nominated Martin Gruenberg to be the chairman of the board of directors for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Gruenberg is currently the vice chairman of that board, a position he has held since 2006; he previously served as acting chairman of the board for a brief stint. Before that, Gruenberg worked for former Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-Md.) on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs as senior counsel.
• The president has sent a nomination for Ken Kopocis to the Senate to be assistant administrator for the Office of Water within the Environmental Protection Agency. Kopocis works for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure as senior counsel. Before that, he worked for the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works as deputy staff director for infrastructure. He also worked on the House subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment for the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure as staff director, senior counsel and assistant counsel earlier in his career.
{mosads}• President Obama has nominated Arnold Chacon to be the ambassador to Guatemala. Chacon is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and currently works at the Embassy in Madrid as the deputy chief of mission. Before that, he was the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs’ director of Andean affairs and the department’s executive secretariat’s deputy executive secretary.
• The president sent Earl Anthony Wayne’s nomination to the Senate to be the ambassador to the United Mexican States. Wayne currently serves as the ambassador to Afghanistan, is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and also is a career ambassador. He has previously served as ambassador to Argentina, as the assistant secretary of State for economic and business affairs and as the Bureau of European Affairs’s principal deputy assistant secretary.
• President Obama nominated Rebecca Wodder to be the assistant secretary for fish and wildlife to the Interior Department. Wodder is the president and chief executive officer of American Rivers. She has worked as vice president for organizational development and vice president for membership, marketing and development for the Wilderness Society. Wodder also worked on Capitol Hill for former Sen. Gaylord Nelson (D-Wis.) as a legislative assistant.
