Conservation group backs Hagan

The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund backed North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan (D) for her reelection bid this year.

Hagan, a red-state Democrat who backs the Keystone XL pipeline, is not the typical poster candidate for environmental groups, but the League has backed her in previous election cycles.

{mosads}Despite backing the oil-sands pipeline, Hagan has been in lockstep with Democrats on climate change policy, participating in an all-nighter on the Senate floor to highlight the issue in Congress earlier this year.

“Senator Kay Hagan is committed to protecting public health and the environment for future generations, including supporting commonsense solutions to tackle climate disruption,” said Gene Karpinski, president of the action fund.

Hagan said she is committed to make sure conservation sites remain available to her state and thanked the green group for its backing.

She is one of a number of vulnerable Democrats facing a tough reelection battle this year. Her seat is crucial to helping Democrats maintain control of the Senate.
