Appointments

• President Obama has nominated Michael Botticelli to be deputy director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Botticelli is director of the Massachusetts Department of Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Services. He has served in a variety of positions with the department since 1994, including chief of staff for the Commissioner’s Office and assistant director for policy and planning at the HIV/AIDS Bureau. 

• The president has nominated Christy Romero to be special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Romero serves TARP as the deputy special inspector general. Before that, she was chief of staff for the special inspector general for TARP, acting deputy special inspector general of the office and acting special inspector general. Romero has also worked for the Securities and Exchange Commission as counsel to the chairman.

• The president intends to appoint Alex Mehran to the Presidio Trust’s board of directors. Mehran is president and CEO of the Sunset Development Co. He is also chairman of the Contra Costa Economic Partnership and has served as chairman of the Bay Area Council.

• The president has nominated John Christopher Stevens to be the U.S. ambassador to Libya. Stevens is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and was the special representative to the Libyan Transitional National Council. He served as the deputy chief of mission in Tripoli, Libya, and was formerly director of the Office of Multilateral Nuclear and Security Affairs. Stevens was a Pearson Fellow with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

• The president has nominated Linda Thomas-Greenfield to be the director general of the State Department’s Foreign Service. Thomas-Greenfield is a Senior Foreign Service career member ranked as minister counselor and is the ambassador to Liberia. She has also served as the Bureau for African Affairs’s principal deputy assistant secretary and Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration deputy assistant secretary.
