The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will dole out about $700 million in grants to help states work toward the administration’s goals under ObamaCare.
Twenty-four states will receive the grants, which are meant to spur local governments and health departments to find new ways of improving healthcare across the board.
“We are committed to partnering with states to advance the goals we all share: better care, smarter spending, and, ultimately, healthier people,” HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell wrote in a release.
With the latest round of grants, about half of states are receiving extra funds to improve their healthcare systems.
State and local officials are important players in the Obama administration’s effort to implement the healthcare law. States have broad regulatory authority, as well as control over its education and outreach efforts.
The Obama administration has given billions to state and local governments, as well as private groups, to help implement the healthcare law and meet sweeping changes to healthcare delivery.
