Under contract
The State Department again contracted with the Indonesian company PT Ganesha Aggies Jaya to help support an “American outreach center” in Jakarta, Indonesia. Worth upwards of $9.5 million, the contract is for workers to help operate a center — located in a shopping mall and called @america — billed as a “a cutting-edge, 21st-century cultural center where you can explore and experience the United States, and express your thoughts and ideas about America.” According to PR Week, the State Department awarded a similar contract to the company in 2003 for about $3 million. The @america center has been open for about five years and has had 800,000 visitors in its first four years of operation.
The Department of the Army is shelling out $235,000 for a quarter-million custom branded mouse pads for the U.S. Army Marketing and Research Group. About 200,000 will be printed with the U.S. Army logo and URL goarmy.com, and another 50,000 will have the Army Reserve logo and URL goarmyreserve.com. TS&J Inc., a company in Georgia, won the contract.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded several contracts, primarily for archaeological survey services in the Ouachita National Forest. The forest is 1.8 million acres in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. Contractors will be mostly working on archeological survey and site evaluations, but the contract also covers “all aspects of professional cultural resources services.” The contracts, which are not to exceed $2 million in total, were given to Amaterra Environmental in Austin, Texas; American Resources Group in Carbondale, Ill.; Judy Cooper in Plano, Texas; Desert West Environmental in Ogden, Utah; and William Self Associates in Orinda, Calif.
