Under Contract

• The Agency for International Development has awarded a five-year contract worth more than $20.4 million to Winrock International, an Arkansas-based nonprofit. The organization will implement “food security activities” in Nepal, which is the 13th-poorest country in the world, according to USAID. Specifically, the project aims to “sustainably reduce poverty and hunger in Nepal by achieving inclusive growth in the agriculture sector, increasing income of farm families and improving nutritional status, especially of women and children,” according to the 163-page solicitation document.

• The National Cancer Institute has awarded a $2.8 million contract to MRIGlobal to “evaluate shelf life of samples of investigational clinical drug formulations.” The contract is for a total of five years — one base year, with the option to add up to four additional years. The company will provide monthly reports to the agency that will help the Food and Drug Administration evaluate proper expiration dates for drugs undergoing tests.

• The Department of Health and Human Services awarded a $283,300 contract to certified accounting firm Mayer Hoffman McCann. They will audit an International Relief and Development Inc. (IRD) program in Afghanistan to “ensure that IRD properly accounted for [U.S. Agency for International Development] funds and used the funds for their intended purposes in compliance with requirements, terms, and conditions of its award and in a cost effective and efficient way.” USAID previously awarded IRD with a contract ultimately worth $500 million contract to construct roads in Afghanistan. The department expects the audit to be completed in 150 days.

• The Department of Veterans Affairs has contracted with Bon Secour Management to install security systems in the department’s Bath, N.Y., medical center campus. The $1.8 million contract entails putting high-level video surveillance and security protections on the property and building a “command center” to monitor the camera and alarm systems. The contract also had a clause requiring the department to provide the award to a disabled veteran-owned small business.
