Trump, Trudeau to talk trade, women in the workforce during meeting

President Trump and Justin Trudeau will discuss trade and women in the workforce during the Canadian prime minister’s visit on Monday.

The two leaders will take part in a roundtable discussion about women in the workforce during their first meeting since Trump assumed office last month, The Associated Press reported.

Trudeau will also talk with Trump about trade and take part in a working lunch.

The two countries are planning to launch a new task force: the United States Canada Council for the Advancement of Women Business Leaders-Female Entrepreneurs, according to a White House official and senior Canadian official.

{mosads}Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump reportedly had a role in getting participants and creating the agenda for the roundtable discussion.

Trudeau’s administration raised the idea of the task force, according to the Canadian official.

The Canadian prime minister said ahead of the meeting that he expected the two leaders would “find a lot of common ground,” Reuters reported.

Trudeau said during a news conference last week that he would “defend and demonstrate Canadian values,” but “respectfully and not from an ideological standpoint.”

After Trump signed an order last month barring refugees and people from seven predominately Muslim countries from entering the U.S., Trudeau tweeted that Canada would be a welcoming place for refugees.

“To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada,” Trudeau wrote.
