JOB: Assistant Correspondent/Social Media Producer

The Hill is seeking an Assistant Correspondent/Social Media Producer with strong writing skills and an unbridled enthusiasm for all things social.

The successful applicant will have journalism experience and will be well versed in everything from Tweeting breaking news stories to creating comprehensive Snapchat stories on the ground. This position requires a familiarity with all new, emerging, and fringe platforms.

The applicant will regularly be called upon to produce stories about politically-themed topics trending on social media and/or complement the packaging of an existing story with visuals or other social media enhancements, as well as coordinate Facebook Live feeds from events.

Responsibilities also include quickly editing video for social media usage, covering events live on Snapchat, managing multiple Facebook Live feeds, uploading posts/tweets to all applicable social media outlets including Facebook and Twitter; tracking social media influence measurements; preparing reports on usage; keeping up to date on the latest social platforms and suggesting ways to enhance The Hill’s social presence; continuous monitoring and coverage of all platforms.

The candidate must possess:

• An eye for great footage, and an understanding of the role of video on social media and news
• A willingness to work occasional off hours and weekend shifts
• Sharp news judgment
• Superior writing skills
• The ability to make good news decisions quickly and execute ideas against high-pressure deadlines.
• A strong personal presence on social platforms or prior experience creating video for social platforms on behalf of a media company is a plus.
• Candidates should be fluent in Adobe Premiere and familiar with After Effects.

Prior experience in social media management for a news organization is preferred. A journalism degree a plus. Candidates must have some type of previous experience working in news/journalism.
