Steve King defends Sessions: Trump agenda would be ‘crippled’ without him

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) is defending Attorney General Jeff Sessions after criticism from President Trump, saying Trump’s agenda would be “crippled” without him.

“No one in America can match the excellence of @JeffSessions as Attorney General. Trump agenda would be crippled wo him,” King tweeted Wednesday, tagging the president.

{mosads}Trump on Wednesday attacked Sessions for recusing himself from overseeing the investigations into Russian election meddling and Trump’s possible ties to Russia.

Trump said Sessions’s decision to recuse himself was “very unfair to the president,” adding that he would not have chosen him for the position if he knew he would recuse.

“Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” he said.

Sessions announced on Thursday that he will stay on as attorney general “as long as that is appropriate.”

He added that he and the Justice Department still “wholeheartedly join in the priorities that President Trump” and will continue to work towards national interests.
