• DEFENSE. Marathon Oil Corporation has hired Amos Hochstein to lobby on the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2008, specifically on provisions regarding terrorism exception to immunity, lobbying records show.
• ENERGY. Quinn Gillespie and Associates, on behalf of Entergy Corporation , has hired Breaux Lott Leadership Group to lobby on nuclear energy issues. Former Sens. John Breaux (D-La.) and Trent Lott (R-Miss.), as well as Bret Boyles, Lott’s former chief of staff, are lobbying for the coalition.
{mosads}• FINANCE. The New York Bankers Association has hired Porterfield & Lowenthal to lobby on banking issues that affect depository institutions, lobbying records show.
• HEALTHCARE. US Strategies has been hired by Nexera Medical to lobby on issues and funding related to certain healthcare products.
Carmen Group is lobbying for the Specialty Hospital of Washington on reimbursement issues affecting hospitals in the District of Columbia. John Ladd, former chief counsel of the House Judiciary Constitution subcommittee, and Aron Griffin, former staff member of the House Education and Labor Committee, are lobbying for the hospital.
• INDIAN TRIBES. The Ft. Sill Apache Tribe has hired American Capitol Group to lobby on economic development issues and gaming issues relating to the Apache Tribe in Oklahoma. Tim Stewart, former chief of staff for the House Natural Resources Committee, is lobbying for the Apache Tribe.
• TAX. The Alliance for a Competitive Tax Policy has hired Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld to lobby on tax policy. Rob Leonard, former Democratic chief counsel and staff director to the House Ways and Means Committee; Greg Mastel, former chief economic adviser to the Senate Finance Committee; and Hal Shapiro, an associate general counsel at the United States Trade Representative office during the Clinton administration, are lobbying for the alliance.
• TRADE. Johnson, Madigan, Peck, Boland & Stewart is lobbying for Philip Morris International on the Colombia free trade agreement. Peter Madigan, former chief of staff to U.S. Trade Representative Robert B. Zoellick; and Walter J. Stewart, former secretary of the Senate, are lobbying for Philip Morris.
