Under Contract
Contracts to help with disaster relief are still being issued by the federal government almost a month after three hurricanes slammed the mainland United States and its island territories. Industrial Security Products, Inc. won a $217,072 contract to provide the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with “hygiene kits.” The various items include a half-million each of the following: 15-packs of antibacterial wipes; small bars of antibacterial soap; 5-inch plastic combs; hairbrushes “with medium bristles;” travel sized unscented deodorant; hand lotion; two-packs of razors; travel sized shampoo and conditioner; small can of shaving cream; toothbrushes and toothpaste; mouthwash; washcloths; and a plastic bag.
The General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded a “disaster lease” for almost 15,000-square-feet of space in the Plaza Atenas shopping mall in Manati, Puerto Rico, which is a little more than 30 miles away from the capital city of San Juan. The space is “for use as a FEMA Branch Office in support of Hurricane Maria recovery.” The GSA awarded the $299,740 lease to Regency Park Associates.
The United States Coast Guard awarded a $378,960 contract to F&B Construction Corp. for “emergency repairs” at the Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Detachment in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Many of the dialysis patients evacuated from hurricane-affected areas ended up in the Atlanta area. FEMA awarded an $889,000 contract to Infiniti Global Media to provide them hundreds of lunches, dinners and snacks, both regular and for kidney-friendly diets.
The devastating wildfires that recently hit California are also still receiving attention. FEMA issued an “urgent” contract for a total of four portable toilets (with hand sanitizer dispensers inside), four hand-washing stations and two 300-gallon holding tanks for two agency staging areas in California. M&M Sanitary won a contract worth up to $51,000 for the staging yard in Solano County Fairground, and Area Restroom Solutions Inc. won a contract worth $49,390 for the staging yard in McClellan Park. The contractors are required to service the tanks and the toilets three times per week.
