Trump Tower apartment where lethal fire began didn’t have working smoke alarm: report
There was reportedly no working smoke alarm in the apartment in Trump Tower in New York where a fire started over the weekend, killing one person.
A New York City Fire Department source familiar with the investigation told CNN that firefighters were made aware of the fire through a buildingwide alarm system.
{mosads}The source said the apartment, located on the 50th floor of Trump Tower, did not have a working smoke alarm, so there was not an alarm coming from the unit when firefighters got to the scene.
The upper floors of the building also do not have fire sprinklers, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
One man was killed after the fire broke out at Trump Tower on Saturday.
Shortly after initial reports of the fire surfaced, President Trump said the fire had been put out and thanked the fire department for its response.
The fire was the second at Trump Tower in a matter of months. Firefighters responded to a minor fire in a cooling tower on the building’s roof in January. Two people sustained minor injuries in that fire.
Trump Tower houses both residential apartments and offices.
