• Mary Bruce Warlick has been nominated to become ambassador to Serbia. Warlick is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Until May 2009, she served as acting deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Policy. She joined the State Department and the foreign service in 1983.
{mosads}• Islam Siddiqui has been nominated to become chief agricultural negotiator at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Siddiqui is currently vice president for science and regulatory affairs at CropLife America. He was undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture during the Clinton administration. He was also USDA Secretary Dan Glickman’s senior trade adviser.
• Obama has nominated Alan Bersin to become commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Homeland Security Department. Bersin has been the assistant secretary for International Affairs and special representative for Border Affairs at the department. Previously he was the secretary of education for California in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (R) administration.
