Just leave, shareholders tell Nike…
{mosads}The blog Solve Climate reported that shareholders want Nike to leave the Chamber because the trade group’s stance against climate legislation contradicts Nike’s efforts, through the Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP), to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Kristina Curtis, president of Green Century Equity Fund, wrote Nike President and CEO Mark Parker to complain about the Chamber’s “particularly antagonistic role” in climate negotiations and said the big-business group “holds views counter to those of BICEP.”
Emily Stone, a spokeswoman for Green Century, said Nike’s public statement criticizing the Chamber’s stance on climate was a “great step forward,” but that the company should do more by ending its membership.
“In Nike’s own words, ‘Just do it,’ ” Curtis wrote.
