Appointments
• Obama has nominated Luis Arreaga as ambassador to Iceland. Arreaga is a career member of the senior foreign service with the rank of minister-counselor. He currently serves as the director of the Office of Recruitment, Examination and Employment in the Bureau of Human Resources. He previously served as deputy chief of mission at the United States Embassy in Panama, U.S. consul general in Vancouver, Canada, and as director of the Executive Secretariat Staff at the U.S. Department of State in Washington.
• Rose M. Likins has been nominated to become ambassador to Peru. Likins is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. She serves as the deputy director of the Foreign Service Institute. She was previously dean of the Foreign Service Institute’s School of Professional and Area Studies. She also served as the U.S. ambassador to El Salvador.
• Obama has nominated Dr. Jonathan Woodson as assistant secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. Woodson is associate professor of surgery and associate dean at Boston University School of Medicine and a senior attending vascular surgeon at the Boston Medical Center. He chairs the Boston University Medical Center Institutional Review Board for Human Research. He is also an adjunct assistant professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Woodson holds the rank of brigadier general in the United States Army.
