• DEFENSE. American Defense International Inc. has been hired by Clemson University to lobby on the defense appropriations and defense authorization bills. Van Hipp, former deputy assistant secretary of the Army as well as a one-time principal general counsel for the Navy, is lobbying for the school.
{mosads}Waukesha Foundry Inc., a steel manufacturer based in Waukesha, Wis., has hired Foley & Lardner to lobby on expanding “contracting work with the Department of Defense,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Former Rep. Scott Klug (R-Wis.) is lobbying for the foundry.
• EDUCATION. Kaplan Inc., a Washington-based for-profit education provider, has hired Ogilvy Government Relations to lobby on the Education Department’s proposed “gainful employment” rule. Drew Maloney, former legislative director to ex-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), and Tony Bullock, once chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Moynihan (D-N.Y.), are lobbying for the company.
• HEALTHCARE. Pacific Risk Management, a healthcare insurance provider, has hired Troutman Sanders Public Affairs Group to lobby on the new healthcare reform law. Patrick Anderson, once a legislative aide to former Rep. Henry Bonilla (R-Texas), and Robert Leebern Jr., former chief of staff to then-Rep. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), are lobbying for the company.
The American Healthcare Association has hired Capitol Counsel to lobby on “reimbursement levels for Medicare/Medicaid services delivered by the nursing home industry,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Former Rep. Jim McCrery (R-La.), once the House Ways and Means Committee’s ranking member, is lobbying for the trade group.
• TRANSPORTATION. Breaux Lott Leadership Group has been hired by Waterways Council Inc. to lobby on “issues related to inland waterways transportation and infrastructure projects,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Former Sen. John Breaux (D-La.) and John Flynn, once an aide to Breaux in the Senate, are lobbying for the group.
