• DEFENSE. Shockey Scofield Solutions has been hired by Cone Health to lobby for “funding for health initiatives in defense appropriations bill,” according to lobbying disclosure records. John Scofield and Jeff Shockey, former communications director and staff director, respectively, for the House Appropriations Committee, are lobbying for the company.

Blank Rome Government Relations has been hired by Education Reform Now, an education advocacy group, to lobby on “issues related to education reform efforts and ESEA reauthorization,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Dwayne Andrews, a former professional staff member to the House Small Business Committee, and Singleton McAllister, once an associate staffer to the House Appropriations Committee, are lobbying for the advocacy group.

• HEALTHCARE. AARP has hired First Street Strategies to lobby on S. 245/H.R. 1605, otherwise known as the Community Access Preservation Act of 2011, and S. 365, the Budget Control Act of 2011, according to lobbying disclosure records. David Sloane, former legislative director to the late Sen. John Chafee (R-R.I.), is lobbying for the seniors group. 

• TECHNOLOGY. Google has hired Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld to “provide information on the nature and value of Google’s business in light of general allegations that it raises competition concerns,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Christine Hesse, once legal counsel to the Senate Banking Committee, and Scott Parven, once legislative assistant to the late Rep. Nicholas Mavroules (D-Mass.), are lobbying for the company.

• TRANSPORTATION. McKenna, Long & Aldridge has been hired by the Georgia Department of Transportation to provide “assistance with state grant applications submitted to U.S. Department of Transportation and with any federal policy matters impacting Georgia Department of Transportation,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Alex McGee, a former aide to the late Sen. Paul Coverdell (R-Ga.) and a deputy assistant secretary of energy, is lobbying for the state agency.
