Under Contract

• The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) awarded several contracts worth a total of nearly $541,000 for more than five-dozen “untrained detector canines.” The seven individual contracts for dogs went to East Coast Canine Academy, Alabama Canine Law Enforcement, Police Service Dogs Inc., iK9, and Xtreme Concepts Inc. The dogs will be delivered to CBP’s two training facilities – the Canine Center El Paso (CCEP) in Texas and Canine Center Front Royal (CCFR) in Virginia.

• Cheney Appraisal Services won a contract from the Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration to professionally appraise three pieces of artwork by evaluating the overall estimated value and condition of the paintings. The contractor, according to contract documents, must be “familiar with Federal curatorial standards and practices and maritime history.” The paintings, displayed in an attachment to the contract solicitation, are each of various ships and tankers. The contract is worth $1,250.

{mosads}• The U.S. Forest Service, within the U.S. Department of Agriculture, recently awarded a trio of contracts worth up to $337,737 to plant trees in various national forests in Northern California. The most sizable contract, won by 3 J’s Reforestation, is to plant government-provided seedlings in the Salmon River Ranger District on the Klamath National Forest and is worth upwards of $271,000. Another project, in the Plumas National Forest, is to plant “conifer seedlings within areas burned by wildfire in 2012.” Imperial Forestry Inc. won that $31,605 contract. Trinidad A. Escareno, of Escareno Reforestation, won the third contract for a project in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

• LGS Innovations won an $11.15 million Defense Department contract to “develop a portable system for real-time standoff detection” that is able to identify “trace chemical residues on surfaces” from as far as 90 feet away using infrared technology.
