Under Contract

• The National Park Service awarded Griff Paulson, a blacksmith in Montana, a $52,080 contract. He will provide horseshoeing services for horses and mules in Glacier National Park, located in Montana, according to contract documents. The contract will last for up to five years.

• The Transportation Department’s Maritime Administration (Marad) spent more than $40,000 on jerseys and equipment for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) football team. Adidas brand items must be provided for some of the equipment and jerseys, the documents say, because “replenishing some of the worn out football jerseys with the Adidas product keep the football team uniforms the same,” since the current inventory includes Adidas products. If Marad had contracted with any other brand, “the entire stock would have to be repurchased,” one document said.  “Due to budgetary constraints, the USMMA isn’t able to procure an entire football inventory.” The contract has been awarded to Always Faithful Procurement LLC.

{mosads}• U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement awarded a multiyear contract worth as much as $172,205 to Federal Hearings and Appeals Services for assistance with evaluating job applicants. The contractor will help with rating the written essay test that the “best applicants who qualify for the jobs” are required to take, according to a statement of work. In order to be considered for the contract, the document says, the contractor must have a background in professional writing and editing or “have extensive experience evaluating writing samples.” The agency considers an individual as an expert if they have a minimum of three years of experience.

• The National Interagency Fire Center, within the U.S. Department of Agriculture, awarded a contract worth almost $300,000 for the exclusive use of a helicopter able to carry up to 100 gallons of water and anywhere from four to eight passengers — a small helicopter by firefighting standards. PJ Helicopters, a California company, won the contract. The helicopter will be used in the National Forest Service’s Region 5, which covers the Pacific Southwest.
