Van Scoyoc Associates has been hired by Florida International University to lobby on “higher education issues; research and development; and STEM related issues,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Carolyn Fuller, former appropriations counsel to ex-Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.), and Leslee Gilbert, once staff director and counsel for the House Science Committee, are lobbying for the school.

•HEALTHCARE.Nathan-son+Hauck has been hired by Montefiore Medical Center, a teaching hospital and medical center based in the Bronx, N.Y., to lobby on “all Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and private insurance issues impacting the Hospital,” as well as “health care workforce issues” and “health care delivery system innovation and transformation,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Melanie Nathanson, a former senior policy adviser to ex-Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fla.), and Megan Hauck, once a health policy adviser to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), are lobbying for the medical center.

{mosads}Kountoupes | Denham has been hired by the Consumer Healthcare Products Association to lobby on “issues related to the sales of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Lisa Kountoupes, a former senior Clinton White House aide, is lobbying for the trade group. 

• GAMING. Greenberg Traurig has been hired by Rational Entertainment Enterprises to lobby on “licensing of Internet gaming/poker,” according to lobbying disclosure records. J. Daniel Walsh, former legislative director for ex-Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-Md.), is lobbying for the company.

• HOMELAND SECURITY. Winn Strategies has been hired by Covia Labs, a software technology firm based in Mountain View, Calif., to lobby on “public safety networks and communications,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Chani Wiggins, a former Homeland Security Department assistant secretary for legislative affairs, is lobbying for the company.

• TELECOMMUNICATIONS. K&L Gates has been hired by PC Landing Corp., a Danville, Calif.-based owner and operator of trans-Pacific fiber optic cable, to lobby on “safety and security of transpacific fiber optic cable issues,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Nicholas Leibham, a former senior aide to ex-Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii), and Martin Stern, once a senior official at the Federal Communications Commission, are lobbying for the company.
