Bottom Line

Lobbying disclosure forms for the last three months of 2016 were due on Monday, triggering a wave of new client registrations.

In the month of January, forms for 200 new clients were filed to the Senate, compared to roughly 250 in the two months before. Although some had been recently signed, others were months old.

{mosads}Here are some of the latest hires on K Street.

EDUCATION. Battle Consulting has been advocating for the Ounce of Prevention Fund, an advocacy group focused on boosting funding in early childhood education programs. Lobbyist Dana Battle, once an aide to former House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.), will be pushing for “innovative changes in the tax code” to help those education programs.FUNDING. Jochum Shore & Trossevin and Arent Fox are both working for the American Library Association. Disclosures say that lobbyists at Jochum Shore & Trossevin will be talking with lawmakers about “funding and resourcing libraries.” Arent Fox, which is primarily a law firm, will be advocating for “library services expansion initiatives.” The trade group now has three lobby firms on retainer, including the Penn Hill Group.

HEALTHCARE. Sixteen Thirty Fund, a public interest nonprofit that works on global health issues, now has four lobbying firms working on its behalf. Blue Mountain Strategies became the latest firm to begin lobbying for the group earlier this month, according to records. Disclosures show that the organization will be headed to Capitol Hill to discuss the “issues associated with the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act.” Congressional Republicans have set in motion a plan to repeal ObamaCare, but concrete proposals for how to reform the healthcare system are still uncertain.

TECHNOLOGY. Amazon is continuing its expansion in Washington, hiring its 11th lobbying firm, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck. Forms only mention that the firm will be working on general policy areas for the tech giant, such as taxes, trade and telecommunications. The company’s lobbying spending has been skyrocketing in recent years, including a 91 percent increase in spending from 2014 to 2015. Throughout the first nine months of 2016, Amazon spent more than $8 million on lobbying.
