• Global public affairs and consulting firm Ketchum has named KayAnn Schoeneman as a senior vice president and director of the firm’s public and corporate affairs practice in Washington. She has been at the firm since 2008 and most recently served as the senior vice president for Ketchum Global Research & Analytics. She has been in the political and public policy space for more than a decade, including at grassroots firm Weber Merritt.
• Rory Brosius, the deputy director of the White House’s Joining Forces initiative, will join the veteran and military family-focused public affairs firm ScoutComms on March 1. She had held the post at the White House for nearly four years. In 2011, former first lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden launched Joining Forces, which works with the public and private sectors to expand wellness programs and help service members, veterans and military families with education and employment opportunities.
{mosads}• Valero has named Salo Zelermyer as a counsel and vice president of federal affairs, heading the oil and gas giant’s Washington office. Zelermyer, a senior principal at law and lobby firm Bracewell LLP, will officially take the position on March 1. He also served as senior counsel in the Energy Department under President George W. Bush.
• The American Kidney Fund hired Holly Bode as its vice president of government affairs. Before that, she led advocacy efforts for the Alliance of Community Health Plans. Bode has also worked at the lobby firm Washington Council Ernst & Young and the insurance company UnitedHealth Group.
• Brandis Zehr is returning to the law and lobby firm Wiley Rein after serving as deputy general counsel of Jeb Bush’s 2016 presidential campaign and counsel to Federal Election Commission Commissioner Lee E. Goodman. Zehr, who joined Wiley Rein for the first time in 2011, returns as an associate in its election law and government ethics practice.
• Sam Huxley, most recently the global lead of digital crisis for FleishmanHillard, is joining public affairs firm Levick, where he will chair its risk and business strategy practice, in addition to serving as a strategist and adviser for the firm’s clients. He has also been at New Media Strategies, where he formed the strategy and insights team that created social media strategies for clients, and worked as the director for creative strategy at Young & Rubicam.
