Under Contract

• The U.S. Agency for International Development awarded a $70 million contract to Deloitte Consulting to help “increase electricity availability and access in Southern Africa … by removing barriers to private sector transactions and strengthening the enabling environment for public and private sector investment in the power sector.” 

• The American Public Health Association won a $120,000 contract from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to “purchase an online only full issue supplement to share progress on recent advances in health disparities research, practice and policy,” especially focused on “minority health and health disparities research.” The American Public Health Association publishes the American Journal of Public Health, an academic journal. In addition to publishing research, NICHD will “work in concert with the three main priorities of the American Public Health Association, namely to develop universal coverage; eliminate health disparities and rebuild the public health infrastructure.”

{mosads}• U.S. Customs and Border Protection is spending $204,000 on 30 young dogs that have not yet been trained to ultimately help law enforcement, including in activities such as searching for things by scent. Each dog must be either a “Golden Retriever, German shepherd, Dutch Shepherd, and Belgian Malinois, or other working, herding or sporting breeds with prior approval.” Kajun Country K9, Ventosa K9 and Dogs for Defense each won a contract to provide 10 dogs.

• The State Department awarded a $77,400 contract to the Nippon Research Center for “focus groups in Japan.” Contract documents are not more specific about the topics of those focus groups. 

• Utah State University won a $72,621 contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct climate change research. It will help work on a report titled “Useful Prediction of Climate Extreme Risk for Texas-Oklahoma at 4-6 Years.”
