• The State Department is adding on a new campus to the U.S. Embassy in
The Hague, Netherlands. The project will cost more than $125 million,
according to contract documents, and is expected to take three years.
The new facility will include a new office building, Marine security
guard quarters, shops and an emergency egress bridge, among other
features. Caddell Construction Co. won the contract.
• The Department of Veterans Affairs is beefing up its staff to help “reduce the current backlog of outstanding requests and process new FOIA [Freedom of Information Act] requests.” The department awarded the $2.9 million contract to Virginia-based R & K Enterprise Solutions, a company that specializes in employing veterans. The company will initially earn $778,850, and the subsequent amounts will be paid over four additional years.
{mosads}• The Missile Defense Agency has added $36.8 million to an existing contract with Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, bringing the total value to nearly $2.4 billion. The company will continue its work in managing the Space Tracking and Surveillance System program, which keeps watch for ballistic missiles at the Missile Defense Space Development Center at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado.
• The Northampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Massachusetts is spending $63,850 on a “luminous sky ceiling.” The contractor, Dodson Construction, must provide a total of 8-foot-by-8-foot “virtual skylights [and] photographic illusions of real sky views that trigger beneficial ‘relaxation responses’ for mind and body.” It also purchased three 40-inch “virtual windows,” which “transform enclosed interiors into more spacious feeling and memorable environments with photographic illusions of wild natural vistas.”
• In rolling out the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education program, the Department of Education awarded a nearly $2.7 million contract to StandardsWork to help “ensure accountability and successful outcomes” as well as creating online resources for teaching and learning to encourage entities to adopt the program, among providing other services.
