Under Contract

•  The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded a $32.7 million contract to Winrock International to help out with a USAID program called Feed the Future. The contractor will be focusing its work on Nepal, where the agency wants to establish sustainable farming and agricultural practices. 

• The Drug Enforcement Agency, within the Justice Department, bought $64,471 worth of 3-D printers from TriMech Solutions. The contract includes maintenance of the printers and training on how to use them. It’s unclear what the printers will be used for, but the devices are able to replicate evidence in an investigation, including footprints, enlarge fingerprints and re-create accidents.

{mosads}• Dynamis Alliance Corp. won a $25,000 contract from the Pentagon to provide a course on “tactical concealed carry, edged weapons  and close quarter” combat so instructors at the Naval Special Warfare Group can train troops. “These skills are crucial for members deploying to low visibility, semi-permissive environments to allow for survivability of any situation [they] might face.” Some of the topics to be covered include “improvised weapons and blunt weapons … fighting in low light conditions … striking/grappling with multiple attacker scenarios [and] one handed manipulations/dual deployment of weapons.”

• The U.S. Trade and Development Agency is contracting with Intratech Inc. to help it decide whether the agency should fund certain pilot projects, technical assistance or other activities in Egypt. The contractor will travel to Egypt and spend at least 10 days interviewing people and companies to determine “the viability of a potential re-refining of a waste lube-oil opportunity with El Sewedy Electric,” among other modernization projects. It must also talk to other prospective recipients of grants, U.S. companies interested in the oil and gas sector there. Intratech will then develop recommendations for two grants to “advance economic development, as well as U.S. commercial interests in Egypt.” At least one Arabic-speaking expert from the oil and gas sector, with experience in the region, must be involved with the project. The contract is worth almost $83,000.
