Under Contract

• The Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded a $2.3 million contract to My Own Meals Inc. to provide food for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston. The company specializes in producing kosher shelf-stable meals, including for the military and to help with disaster relief. The contract solicitation required any applicants to provide a “picture of entree meals that will be delivered and includes nutritional facts” and show that those meals have a shelf life of six months after being delivered. The food schedule shows that deliveries of up to 6.2 million meals will last from Sept. 1 to Sept. 10. It’s not clear how many prepared meals were actually ordered.

• The Department of the Navy’s Naval Medical Center San Diego purchased 24 un-embalmed cadavers from the University of California in San Diego, which are frequently used in surgical training. The award is worth nearly $69,500 and says that UC San Diego will deliver two cadavers every month from October 2017 through September 2018. The university had a similar contract with the Naval Medical Center last year, which was more expansive and included the delivery of individual body parts. That contract was worth $169,000.  

{mosads}• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded a contract that will not exceed a cost of $3 million to the Research Triangle Institute, also known as RTI International. The contract requires the nonprofit to help the government conduct an “economic evaluation of HIV prevention interventions and the most efficient use of HIV prevention funds.” 

• Management Sciences for Health (MSH) has been awarded a $12.4 million contract from the U.S. Agency for International Development to help with its Safe, Affordable, and Effective Medicines for Ukrainians program. It’s a five-year contract in which MSH is expected to “support the ongoing efforts of the Government of Ukraine (GoU) and its civil society partners to transform its healthcare system to effectively meet the needs of its citizens.”
