NASA is expanding its testing of the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM), which is manufactured by Bigelow Aerospace LLC. The BEAM provides additional storage for cargo and supplies on the International Space Station (ISS), in addition to giving astronauts a “a comfortable area for astronauts to live and work.” The BEAM is intended to provide more storage so fewer deliveries of supplies need to be made to the ISS. The module only expands once it arrives in space, so it takes up less space on a rocket and could potentially help crews while traveling to Mars. The contract is worth $200,000.

{mosads}The Arlington Memorial Bridge is getting a face-lift, thanks to a $192 million contract from the Transportation Department. There are several aspects of the contract, which was awarded to Kiewit Infrastructure Co., including “emergency repairs on the existing bridge to keep it open to traffic.” The bridge was first opened to traffic in 1932 and was “constructed as a memorial to American patriotism and those who have died in military service to the country, as well as a symbolic representation of the reconciliation between the Union and Confederacy following the Civil War by connecting the Lincoln Memorial with Arlington House, the Robert E. Lee Memorial.”
