NASA is expanding its testing of the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM), which is manufactured by Bigelow Aerospace LLC. The BEAM provides additional storage for cargo and supplies on the International Space Station (ISS), in addition to giving astronauts a “a comfortable area for astronauts to live and work.” The BEAM is intended to provide more storage so fewer deliveries of supplies need to be made to the ISS. The module only expands once it arrives in space, so it takes up less space on a rocket and could potentially help crews while traveling to Mars. The contract is worth $200,000.

Lee Memorial.”
