• ENERGY. McBee Strategic Consulting has been hired by Central Electric Power Cooperative, based in Columbia, S.C., to lobby on energy efficiency and weatherization legislation. Alisa Ferguson, former legislative director to the House Science and Technology Committee, is working on the account.
{mosads}• HEALTHCARE. The Hospital Sisters Health System, based in Springfield, Ill., has hired McDermott Will & Emery to help find financial support from the federal government for the hospital’s initiatives.
• IMMIGRATION. Compete America, a coalition of corporations, academics and trade associations in favor of immigration reform, has hired Monument Policy Group to lobby for them. C. Stewart Verdery, a former assistant secretary of Homeland Security, is working on the account.
• LEGAL. Winston & Strawn has registered to lobby for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform on legislation dealing with the federal court system. John McMickie, a former counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, is lobbying for the institute.
• TECH. Missy Edwards Strategies has registered to lobby for Genentech, a biotechnology company, on the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education appropriations bill along with both healthcare reform bills. Edwards is a former aide to Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.).
NIC Inc., an electronic government services company, has hired Peck, Madigan, Jones & Stewart to lobby for government contracts. Jeff Peck, former staff director for the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Sean Richardson, ex-chief of staff for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), are working on the account.
• TRANSPORTATION. CSX Transportation has hired Navigators Global, formerly DC Navigators, to lobby on “issues related to rail safety and security,” according to lobbying disclosure records.
