• Holly Fechner has been named a co-chairwoman of Covington &
Burling’s government-affairs practice. Fechner has previous experience
serving under the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) as policy
director. She also worked for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and
Pensions Committee as chief labor and pensions counsel during her eight
years on Capitol Hill.

•Leonard Gordon and Peter O’Malley have joined Venable as partners. Gordon will be a partner for the firm’s advertising and marketing and antitrust teams, while O’Malley will be a partner for government relations. Gordon leaves his position as the Federal Trade Commission’s Northeast regional director, which he held for four years. O’Malley has served under Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake (D) as chief of staff.

{mosads}• Jennifer McNelly has been named president of the Manufacturing Institute, the nonprofit affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers. McNelly previously served the institute as senior vice president. Before joining the institute, she was an Employment and Training Administration (ETA) Senior Executive Service member within the Labor Department. She also worked for the ETA as director of the Business Relations Group.

• The Herald Group has opened an office in Austin, Texas, with Cary Roberts as the managing director. Roberts most recently worked for the Texas Civil Justice League as communications director. He has also worked for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, doing communications, marketing and research for the public law and policy practice.

• Julie Driver has joined the American Association for Homecare as senior manager of marketing and communications. Driver has experience managing the Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program with the Peace Corps and working for Arizona Instrument on advertising, trade show and regulatory communications strategy. She earned her master’s degree in international business studies from the University of South Carolina.

•Jake Siewart has been hired as the global head of corporate communications for Goldman Sachs. Siewart previously worked for the Treasury Department as counselor to the secretary. Before that, he worked for Alcoa in several positions, including vice president for business development, and served in a variety of roles in the Clinton administration, including White House press secretary.
