• Tate Bennett, an energy and agriculture policy aide to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), will be joining the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association next month. She will serve as a senior principal for the trade group and focus on appropriations. Bennett has worked for McConnell for two years and prior to that worked for Reps. Brett Guthrie and Andy Barr, also Kentucky Republicans.
• The American Institute of Physics has named applied physicist Robert G.W. Brown as its new CEO, succeeding H. Frederick Dylla, who held the job for the last eight years. Brown begins June 1. He previously served as the chief sensor scientist at the Advanced Technology Center of Rockwell Collins Inc. and worked concurrently as an adjunct full professor in the Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic of the University of California, Irvine.
{mosads}• Christopher Romig has become a professional staff member for the Republicans on the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, according to congressional tracking website LegiStorm. Prior to that, he worked as a lobbyist at Rapiscan Systems, a company that manufacturers security screening equipment. Romig also worked at General Dynamics and as a lobbyist at Greenberg Traurig.
• TIAA-CREF hired Derek Dorn as its vice president of public policy and associate general counsel to be based in New York. He will be “responsible for developing and implementing TIAA-CREF’s public policy agenda at the global, federal, and state levels,” according to a release. He comes from Washington law firm Davis & Harman. Dorn also has Capitol Hill experience, working on a Senate Finance subcommittee and for former Sens. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.).
• FleishmanHillard is bringing on Nathan Naylor as a senior vice president and Caroline Roth as an account supervisor. Naylor comes from BSA – The Software Alliance and has experience at several federal agencies, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs. A former communications director to Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), he also served in communications, campaign and administrative roles for the Clinton White House. Roth previously worked at Rasky Baerlein and as a staff writer for National Journal’s Hotline.
