ALL ABOUT TAXES. There have been more than 30 new lobbying registrations in October alone that mention tax issues. Republicans are expected to release their tax-reform plan at any time, and companies like car manufacturer Aston Martin and industry groups such as the Wine Institute have all lobbied up to make sure their voices are heard. (Among others who’ve added to their advocacy roster for tax reform this month: Koch Industries, Sanofi, the hardware store Lowe’s, Amgen, and the Puerto Rico Fiscal Agency and Financial Advisory Authority.)

RETAIL. The athletic-wear manufacturer Under Armour this month officially registered Matt Stanton, its vice president of global public policy, as a lobbyist for the company to work on tax and trade policy, disclosure forms say. He joined the company in early 2016 after several years leading the Washington office of Beam Suntory. Stanley Black & Decker, known for its power tools, also registered its first in-house lobbyist, Greg Polk. He is working on a wide slate of issues, with disclosures saying the company will be lobbying Capitol Hill and the administration on “international and business tax reform issues; manufacturing issues, general; outreach on business activity; wild and scenic river issues; contracting and procurement issues; safety standards on table saws; energy pipeline issues; FERC issues; [and] school safety issues.”

{mosads} ESTATE TAX. Richard Pfeil, an Indiana businessman and philanthropist, hired the consulting and lobbying firm founded by former Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) earlier this year after Stutzman left Congress. The Stutzman Group will be tackling federal estate tax issues for Pfeil, who founded the Pfeil Innovation Center and has run three times for the Indiana State House of Representatives. Stutzman, who cannot lobby his colleagues in the House for one year, is not working on the account, forms say. Zach Rodgers and Bryan Prisock, who worked for Stutzman on Capitol Hill, will be lobbying on the businessman’s behalf. The Indiana-based firm also represents Union City, Ind., and Parkview Health, a group of nonprofit hospitals in the state.
