• Manatt, Phelps & Phillips hired Gregg Nunziata away from the office of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to serve as a partner in the firm’s federal regulatory and government practice. He has been serving as Rubio’s chief legal counsel and senior policy adviser, including during the senator’s 2016 presidential run. He formerly worked as a judiciary and homeland security policy counsel to the Republican Policy Committee and as a special assistant to Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta while he served at the Justice Department in the George W. Bush administration.
• Former Podesta Group lobbyist Lauren Maddox has joined the law and lobby firm Holland & Knight as a senior policy adviser. She had previously overseen the education sector group at Podesta Group, and before that worked as the assistant secretary for communications and outreach at the Department of Education. Maddox has held senior roles with former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and former Rep. J.C. Watts (R-Okla.), who served as chairman of the House Republican Conference.
• USTelecom has named Hawley Stanton as the trade group’s manager of government affairs. Since 2014, she has been working for Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio), who leads the House Energy and Commerce’s Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Subcommittee.
• Emily Gordy has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in its Washington office and will serve in its commercial litigation practice. Before that, she managed enforcement operations at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
• Amazon, which is expanding its reach into the grocery business after acquiring Whole Foods, hired William Tatum away from the Grocery Manufacturers Association, where he served as director of federal affairs. Tatum will now work as a manager for public policy, focused on food issues. Prior to joining the Grocery Manufacturers Association in 2011, he held senior government relations roles at the Partnership for Prevention, the Alliance for Aging Research and the Consortium of Social Science Associations.
