Biden leads Trump by 9 in Pennsylvania: poll

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden leads President Trump by nearly double-digits in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, according to a new poll conducted by ABC and The Washington Post.

Biden was the choice for 54 percent of the state’s likely voters that responded to the survey, while Trump was the pick of 45 percent of respondents. Biden is leading Trump 54 percent to 44 percent among respondents who are registered voters.

The poll found a majority of voters, 53 percent, approve of Trump’s handling of the economy during his first term, but 57 percent disapprove of his response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Pennsylvania, a state where early voting has already begun, is seen as a pivotal swing state this November. On Monday, Republicans in the state asked the Supreme Court to kill a state court ruling extending the due dates for mail-in ballots.

Trump won Pennsylvania by less than 2 percentage points in 2016, and several state polls conducted in recent weeks show Biden with anywhere from a 5- to 9-point lead there.

The first debate between the two candidates is slated for Tuesday night in Cleveland.
